Collection: Blasto

Description:
Blastomussa species, commonly known as Blasto Coral, are large polyp stony (LPS) corals prized for their vibrant colors and ease of care. They are typically available in two main species: Blastomussa wellsi and Blastomussa merletti. These corals feature fleshy polyps in a range of colors, including reds, greens, and purples, often with contrasting centers. Blastos are peaceful corals that grow in colonies, making them a great choice for both beginner and advanced reef keepers.

Recommended Parameters:

  • Lighting: Low to Moderate (PAR 50–150)

    • Prefers dimmer lighting, similar to shaded reef areas, which helps maintain its rich colors.

    • Gentle, indirect flow is ideal to allow the polyps to extend fully without being damaged.
  • Placement: Rockwork or Substrate

  • Temperature: 24–26°C (75–79°F)

  • pH: 8.1–8.4

  • Alkalinity: 8–12 dKH

  • Calcium: 400–450 ppm

  • Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm

  • Salinity: 1.025–1.026 SG

Care Tips:

  • Feed regularly with fine meaty foods like reef roids, mysis shrimp, or brine shrimp to encourage growth and vibrant coloration.
  • Maintain stable water parameters as Blastos are sensitive to fluctuations.
  • Keep them in low-competition zones as they are peaceful and lack aggressive defense mechanisms.

Blasto Corals are an excellent addition to any reef tank, offering vibrant colors, slow but steady growth, and ease of care, making them suitable for beginners and seasoned reefers alike.
