مجموعة: Alveopora
Description:
Alveopora spp., commonly known as Flowerpot Coral, is a beautiful large polyp stony (LPS) coral that resembles a bouquet of flowers when its polyps are fully extended. It is closely related to Goniopora but is generally easier to care for due to lower nutrient demands. Alveopora has 12 tentacles on each polyp, distinguishing it from Goniopora, which has 24. Its vibrant colors range from greens, pinks, and purples to cream shades, making it a stunning addition to reef tanks.
Recommended Parameters:
-
Lighting: Moderate (PAR 75–150)
- Prefers moderate lighting and can adapt to a variety of positions in the tank. Avoid excessive light as it can cause stress.
-
Flow: Moderate to Low
- Gentle to moderate water movement is ideal to keep the polyps swaying gently without damaging their delicate structure.
-
Placement: Rockwork or Substrate
- Place in a low-flow area, preferably on a stable surface like a rock or sandbed, with enough space for its polyps to extend.
-
Temperature: 24–26°C (75–79°F)
-
pH: 8.1–8.4
-
Alkalinity: 8–12 dKH
-
Calcium: 400–450 ppm
-
Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm
-
Salinity: 1.025–1.026 SG
Care Tips:
- Requires regular feedings of small particle foods like phytoplankton, reef roids, or other coral-specific supplements to thrive.
- Ensure stable water parameters and avoid abrupt changes as they can stress this coral.
- Leave space around it to prevent competition or accidental damage from neighboring corals.
Although Alveopora is slightly more forgiving than Goniopora, it still requires attention to water quality and feeding. Its delicate beauty and flowing polyps make it a captivating choice for intermediate to advanced hobbyists.
