مجموعة: Favia

Favites corals, commonly referred to as Brain Corals or Moon Corals, are hardy large polyp stony (LPS) corals. They feature a distinctive honeycomb-like structure with polyps sharing walls, giving them a textured and patterned appearance. Favites come in a variety of colors, including reds, greens, and yellows, often with fluorescent highlights. Their durability and striking appearance make them a popular choice for both beginner and experienced reef keepers.

Recommended Parameters:

  • Lighting: Moderate (PAR 75–150)

    • Prefers moderate lighting but can adapt to lower or higher light conditions. Gradually acclimate to brighter light to avoid stress.
  • Flow: Low to Moderate

    • Gentle to moderate water flow helps keep the coral clean of debris while avoiding damage to its polyps.
  • Placement: Rockwork or Substrate

    • Place in a stable area on the sandbed or low to mid rockwork. Leave enough space around it due to its semi-aggressive nature and sweeper tentacles.
  • Temperature: 24–26°C (75–79°F)

  • pH: 8.1–8.4

  • Alkalinity: 8–12 dKH

  • Calcium: 400–450 ppm

  • Magnesium: 1250–1350 ppm

  • Salinity: 1.025–1.026 SG

Care Tips:

  • Favites corals are photosynthetic but benefit from occasional feedings of small meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or coral pellets to promote growth and coloration.
  • They are semi-aggressive and can extend sweeper tentacles at night, so provide adequate spacing from other corals.
  • Keep water parameters stable and avoid nutrient spikes, which can lead to algae growth on the coral’s surface.

Favites corals are excellent for adding a bold, textured aesthetic to your reef tank. Their resilience and adaptability make them a great choice for hobbyists of all experience levels.
